The 2021 Outstanding Small Agency Statewide
That's according to the Tallahassee-based Florida Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (FAHRO), which awarded the Authority at its annual conference, held September 14-16, 2021, in Orlando. Boardmembers and Executive Director John W. Hurt were there and received the award.
The business of the Riviera Beach Housing Authority is to provide safe, decent and affordable housing to the residents of Riviera Beach.
The Riviera Beach Housing Authority (RBHA) was established by the City of Riviera Beach - Resolution No. 173-68 adopted on December 4, 1968, under State of Florida Statutes Chapter 421. The City Commission adopting this resolution declaring that:
1. An unsanitary and unsafe inhabited dwelling accommodations remains in the City of Riviera Beach, Florida.
2. There is a shortage of safe and sanitary dwelling accommodations in the City of Riviera Beach, Florida, available for persons of low-income as rentals they can afford; and
3. There is a need for a Housing Authority in the City of Riviera Beach, Florida.
In 2008, the State of Florida expanded the statutes under Chapter 421 to allow for housing authorities to either as developer or partner to build and expand affordable housing within the state.
